The role:
The Medical Science Liaison is the primary point of contact and clinical data expert for all Diabetes and Obesity Scientific and Clinical Experts in academic and peripheral hospitals in the Groningen/Friesland region. Scientific Experts have special needs for in-depth and cutting-edge information, because these health care professionals design and implement novel research and educate colleagues/students. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program is specifically designed to meet the needs of Scientific and Clinical Experts through a field-based group of medical professionals with deep content knowledge about specific disease areas, available products/investigational compounds (both Lilly and competitor), and current issues in the therapeutic area(s) they represent. Medical Science Liaisons also gather feedback and insights from Scientific and Clinical Experts, to better inform Lilly’s research and overall strategic direction. By providing answers that matter and facilitating scientific exchange between the industry and the Scientific Expert community, Medical Science Liaisons can improve patient outcomes by providing needed information that addresses important clinical and scientific questions.
The MSL reports to Felix Boorsma, Senior Manager Medical Science Liaison, the Netherlands.
Responsibilities:
– Scientific and Clinical Experts engagement;
– Setting up local/national medical education programs;
– Sharing scientific information with internists, diabetologists, and gastroenterologists;
– Giving scientific presentations in hospitals;
– The role takes place almost entirely outside the office and in direct interaction with Health Care Providers (at least 80% of the time spent in the field);
– Train therapeutic advisors (sales) and market access colleagues;
– Actively supporting the local brand team with accountrelated information;
– Maintaining medical and scientific expertise.
Profile:
– Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field) required with 2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience desired. Masters or Bachelor’s level degree in health sciences is considered if 5 or more years clinical, research or industry (medical/scientific role) experience in relevant therapeutic area is present;
– Candidates for field medical roles possess a level of formal education and experience in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline that enables them to be scientifically credible peers of their HCPs so you have:
– Scientific knowledge of and interest in Diabetes and the available treatment options for Diabetes
– Scientific knowledge of and interest in Obesity and the available treatment options for Obesity
– You speak and write fluently in both Dutch and English;
– You possess excellent social and communication skills, including demonstrably strong presentation skills;
– You have proven experience in, and the ability to, build professional network;
– You are a selfstarter who can work independently, yet easily integrates into the team when needed;
– You are eager to learn;
– You are customerfocused.
Qualifications and experience:
– Having at least several years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry as an MSL or in a similar role;
– Having experience in the area of Diabetes and Obesity, as well as a network of Diabetes and Obesity healthcare professionals, is a strong plus;
– Scientific background with demonstrable work experience in the field of Diabetes and Obesity.
